Blackhawks take on Frenchtown

The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks competed at the Frenchtown Invitationals in a variety of track and field events on March 28.

Sophomore Lillian Boyd qualified for State discus throwing 124.6 feet. To qualify, an athlete must throw at least 108 feet. Derrick Brovold, also a sophomore, got close to State javelin, throwing 132.5 feet but needing to hit 153. Sophomore Kilty Hanson needed to jump 16 feet and two inches in the long jump to qualify for State and in Frenchtown she clocked in at 15.7.75, also coming in sixth overall.

Coach Mike Haines said some Blackhawks hit a few personal records, including Cannon Hawkinson in the 100 and 200 meter races. In the 100, Hawkinson ran 12.33 seconds and in the 200, he hit 24.9 seconds, both personal records.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team competed for the first time, and Haines said he's looking to get their overall times down as the season progresses. The men's team ran faster in the relay this week than last, Haines said.

"It was actually a pretty good meet," Haines said.

The Blackhawks Track and Field team will travel to Big Fork on Saturday, weather permitting.
