Eagles soar over Lolo

The fans were on their feet as the Seeley Lake Elementary Eagles girls basketball A Team won their first home game of the season, second win of the season, on Feb. 28. The Eagles sixth and seventh graders battled the eighth-grade Lolo Lynx taking the lead in the final minutes of the fourth quarter and coming out on top.

The first game of the night, the Eagle's B Team fell to the Lolo Lynx 24-40.

"We have a very young team with no eighth graders on this year's roster," said Coach Scott Taylor. "With five fifth graders we are definitely the youngest team in our league as most teams we play don't let fifth graders play. The Lolo team was all seventh graders on their B team and all eighth graders on their A Team."

During the A game, the Lynx maintained their distance from the Eagles in the first three quarters. However, in the fourth quarter the Eagles closed the gap to within two baskets. In the final minute of the game, the Eagles secured and held the lead soaring to a 28-25 victory.

Four of the six Eagles scored with seventh graders Audrey Steveson leading the girls with 14 points followed by Ali Homen with 10, and Torey Spence and Aunica Teafoe each with two. Coach Taylor added seventh grader Kieu Snow played amazing defense and was instrumental for the Eagles breaking the Lolo press. Sixth grader Tessa Wilkinson played amazing when she was called in to play.

"These young ladies have come to work everyday with a desire to get better and compete," Coach Taylor said. "I'm very proud of how far we've come and I feel like the sky's the limit for these girls. They play with grit and tenacity and they never quit. I couldn't be prouder to be their coach."
