Seeley Lake, Swan Valley and Potomac show colors at Copper League Meet of Champions

On a mild but sunny Tuesday morning the qualifying athletes of Montana's Copper League for track and field had their final competition, the Meet of Champions held at the outdoor facilities of Missoula Public Schools Stadium in Missoula.

The Copper League Meet of Champions is the highest tier of competition for middle school grades (six-eight) in track and field. Schools from the Bitterroot and Missoula County area meet to race, and throw in their final bids for top place.

Seeley Lake Elementary, Swan Valley Elementary, and Potomac all had students rank high enough in the regular season to earn a place at the meet in multiple sports.

Brayden Cooney, Zenn Hamilton, Oliver Caton and Emmitt Caton wore the maroon all the way from Potomac to represent their school in the long jump, hurdles, shot-put, and multiple meter dash races placing in the top for multiple categories.

Oliver took first place in the 8th grade boys triple jump and third place in the eighth grade 200-meter dash, while Emmitt Caton took third place in the sixth grade triple jump.

Swan Valley showed big in the field sports with top positions in boys and girl's discus and javelin.

Laciey Auchenbach took second place in eighth grade girl's discus and third place for her age group's shot-put while Camden Gleason took first place for sixth grade boys with the 450g AeroJavelin and third place for 1kg discus.

Seeley Lake had quite a showing this year in many categories. They swept first place for eighth grade girls 4x400 relay and third place for sixth grade girls 4x400.

Ryan Pitman took first place for eighth grade girl's discus and Isis Snow took third place for eighth grade long jump. Kieu Snow took second place in sixth grade triple jump, and Aaliyah Homen earned second place for the 1600-meter for sixth grade girls.

The boys had a strong showing on the track with qualified relay teams in multiple age groups but didn't quite clinch the top three, except for Kimber Hanson taking first place for sixth grade boys with the 1kg discus.
