Seeley-Swan finishes strong at Western C

FRENCHTOWN – Seeley-Swan’s Boys earned first place and the Girls took second at the Western C Divisional Track Meet May 20-21. The Boys earned 100 points to put them ahead of Manhattan Christian with 96.5 while the Girls accumulated 60 putting them behind Manhattan Christian’s girls with 89.

Eight Seeley-Swan High School athletes advance to the State C meet this week in individual events. The Boys and Girls advance with both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams.

For the Boys, Owen Hoag, Sawyer Shelmerdine, Chase Haines, Walker McDonald and Klayton Kovatch are heading to State to compete in individual events.

Hoag won the 100, 200 and the 400-meter, running his season’s best time in the 400 crossing the line in 50.14 seconds.

Shelmerdine advanced in the 400 and 800-meter taking third place in both. He set his season record in the 400 with a time of 53.46 and a personal record (PR) of 2:03.49 in the 800.

Haines took second and third in the 300-meter Hurdles and 110-meter Hurdles respectively and set a PR of 41.76 in the 300.

McDonald took the top spot in the Shot Put and second in the Discus while Kovatch threw a PR of 144 feet 9 inches for third place in Discus.

Emily Maughan, Sariah Maughan, and Kyla Conley will represent the Girls in individual events.

S. Maughan won the 800 and 1,600-meter and took second in the 400-meter. Her 800 time of 2:16.26 was her season record.

E. Maughan took first and furthered her school record in the Long Jump to 17 feet 11.75 inches and also advanced with a sixth place in the 100-meter and fourth in the 200-meter.

Conley will compete in the High Jump at state advancing with a fifth-place finish at the Divisional.

This year’s State C meet is in Great Falls May 26-28 at Memorial Stadium.
