Everyone is invited to join the Veterans & Families of Seeley Lake at the Veterans Memorial Garden north of Seeley Lake and the American Legion Post 63 at the Swan Valley Community Hall in Condon at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 11 to celebrate and thank local veterans.
Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution for an annual observance so Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938.
Observing Veterans Day on Nov. 11, regardless of what day of the week it falls, not only preserves the historical significance of the date but helps focus attention on the important purpose of Veterans Day. It is “A celebration to honor America’s veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.”
The Swan Valley American Legion Auxiliary Post 63 will host a luncheon for all Seeley Swan veterans and their families following the brief ceremony under the flag at the Swan Valley Community Hall.
Everyone is encouraged to attend the celebrations to celebrate and honor our Seeley-Swan heroes.
