PLAINS – The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks played their final game of the season on the road taking on the Horsemen of Plains Oct. 23.
The teams battled through a blizzard in what Blackhawks Head Coach Jay Crum would describe as the “funnest game I’ve ever coached.” While the game started with some green showing, the snow completely covered all the grass on the field by halftime.
The game remained scoreless until the final minute when the Horsemen scored a lone touchdown to win with 6 points. But even that didn’t come without controversy related to the weather. Just a couple plays ahead of the touchdown Plains completed a long pass that was way out of bounds. However, with the snow completely covering the lines on the field, it was ruled inbounds.
Crum said despite the snow, the Blackhawks’ spirits were up and they were working really well together. They had one of their best games of the year in rushing and blocking holding the Horsemen’s offense to minimal yards. While the snow made the game fun to watch it made passing impossible for the Blackhawks.
Aside from passing, the only thing the Blackhawks couldn’t do was get the ball those final yards for points. They were inside the 10-yard line nine times and two of those they took it all the way to the one-yard line.
The Blackhawks rushed for 275 yards with Senior Eric Lorentz leading the way carrying the ball 30 times for 169 yards. Walker McDonald added 83 yards on 10 carries while Kaden Thornsberry had 14 yards and Ben Haley had 9.
“The kids after the game, you would never known they had lost. They said that was the funnest game they had ever played,” said Crum.
The Blackhawks record for the season was 2-6 with their victories coming from Darby and Victor.
