Lady Blackhawks take third at District tournament

MISSOULA - The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks season came to an end at the hands of the Valley Christian Eagles at the District 13-C Tournament Nov. 1.

The Lady Blackhawks had a rough start to the tournament falling to Clark Fork 19-25, 23-25 and 24-26 in their first match but they didn't go down without a fight. They sent home Victor 25-10, 25-14 and 25-11 and Lincoln 26-24, 21-25, 25-14, 25-27 and 15-10 before falling to the Eagles 17-25, 25-27, 25-19, 25-10 and 6-15 for third place.

Statistically the Lady Blackhawks were playing well and even outscored the Eagles in their final match.

Sariah Maughan led in kills averaging just over 10 kills per match. Klaire Kovatch was just behind averaging 9 kills per match.

The team averaged nearly 13 aces per match with their best match against Lincoln with 19 aces. Aspen Conley topped the charts individually with 8 aces against the Eagles.

Maughan and Kovatch led at the net with 9 and 7 solo blocks in the tournament. Maughan's best match was against the Eagles with 4 while Kovatch's best of 4 solo blocks was against Lincoln.

Taylor Dillree led the Ladies in digging in all four matches, averaging 15 digs per match with a high of 26 against Lincoln. Emma Stevenson was just behind Dillree with 25 digs against Lincoln helping the team rack up 99 digs in the match.

Conley was the top setter being credited with 8.5 assists per match with her best match against Lincoln with 12.

Dillree took the brunt of the serves averaging 20 serve receptions per match and only averaged 4 receive errors per match.

Despite falling just short of advancing to the Divisional Tournament, Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis said the Ladies had a good season overall. She said her seniors conducted themselves with kindness and were great mentors for their underclassmen. She feels the team has a solid base for next year.
