SEELEY LAKE – The Blackhawks go 3-0 and the crowd sings along, "Three cheers for Blackhawks of Seeley-Swan High." The last time the Blackhawks started their season with three wins was in 1999.
The Blackhawks had a rough start against the Arlee Warriors Sept. 13 letting a touchdown slip in early off an intercepted pass from the 25-yard line. A second interception and a handful of penalties kept the Blackhawks at bay through the first quarter and into the second.
Dakota Wood finally broke the ice taking a lateral pass from Owen Mercado in for a 22-yard touch down. Mercado ran in the extra points.
Mercado was just getting warmed up. He ran in two more touchdowns and hit Wood for a 59-yard touchdown as the clock wound down on the first half.
The Blackhawks picked right up where they left off in the second half with Avery Smith taking in a touchdown. Mercado took in another touchdown and Wood returned a punt for a touchdown.
Arlee scored on the last play of the game. The final score was 48-12.
The Blackhawks racked up 559 yards in the game with 361 yards rushing, 133 passing and 65 yards of punt returns.
Mercado led on the ground with 163 yards followed by Smith with 116. Wood ran all of the 65 yards of punt returns.
On the defense Smith had 14 solo tackles while Walker McDonald had 3 of the team's 5 sacks.
The Blackhawks head to Drummond to take on the Flint Creek Coop Sept. 20. Flint Creek is the defending state champions but they have already suffered one loss this season to the Clark Fork Coop.
