Scarlets bring down Lady Blackhawks

The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks fell to the Arlee Scarlets before heading to the Mineral County Shoot Out last week. The non-conference loss to Arlee gives the Ladies a 4-3 overall record. They remain 3-0 in conference.

The Lady Blackhawks hosted Arlee Sept. 20. It was the third time the teams faced each other this year.

The Ladies came out strong putting the Scarlets down 25-15 in game one. They struggled through the middle of the match dropping close games two, 22-25 and three, 25-27. The Scarlets took the match with a 15-25 victory in game four.

Klaire Kovatch led the Lady Blackhawks with 10 kills, 7 blocks and 1 stuff block. Chloe Robbins was right behind with 7 kills and also had a stuff block. Autumn Morse had 13 digs and 12 of the team's 17 assists. Emma Stevenson scored on 3 aces.

At the Shoot Out, 12 teams faced off in matches consisting of three games to 15. The Lady Blackhawks took on St. Regis in the opening game and won all three, 15-12, 15-7 and 15-14.

The Lady Blackhawks then took on Thompson Falls and fell in all three games, 3-15, 9-15 and 12-15. They finished out the day on a somewhat satisfying note, defeating Arlee in two of the three games, 15-9, 15-10 and 13-15. They didn't make it into the evening matches of the tournament.

Kovatch led the Ladies again with 12 kills and 2 stuff blocks. Ashley Miller served 5 aces and had 16 digs while Morse had 18 of the team's 29 assists. Sariah Maughan led with 4 stuff blocks.

Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis said some of the younger players are starting to make an impact on the team. During the Shoot Out, Bethany Hoag had 1 ace, 7 digs, 2 assists, 4 kills, 1 block and 1 stuff block. In addition to leading the Ladies in stuff blocks, Maughan had 6 digs an d 9 kills.

This week the Lady Blackhawks travel to Lincoln to take on the Lynx Sept. 27 with JV starting at 4 p.m. They then host Hot Springs for Homecoming Sept. 29 at 5 p.m. Homecoming court will be announced at the game.
