Swan Valley AARP Meeting, Sept. 4
Swan Valley - The Swan Valley AARP will meet Tuesday, Sept. 4 at noon at the Swan Valley Community Hall. A potluck lunch hosted by George and Emily Beck will begin at 12:30 p.m. There will be a brief business meeting at 1:30 p.m. after which George and Emily will talk about their trip to Budapest. The public is invited.
SVC Community Potluck presents “Bears and Berries” Sept. 5
Swan Valley - Swan Valley Connections’ September Community Potluck Dinner will be held on Wed., Sept. 5th, at 6 p.m. at the Swan Valley Community Hall (Hwy 83, MM 42.5) in Condon. A presentation on Bears & Berries will feature Tabitha Graves, USGS Researcher. Learn about the ongoing huckleberry research in the Swan Valley and the importance of this food sources for a number of native species.
Swan Valley Connections’ monthly potlucks are held on the first Wednesday of every month. This is a time for all community members to come together, share food and learn from one another! Doors open at 5:30 p.m., potluck dinner is at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m. and opportunity to get to know your neighbors at 7 p.m.

Hazardous waste disposal for Missoula County residents at Haz Waste Days Sept. 21-22
MISSOULA - Do you have unusable or unneeded hazardous chemical products? Missoula Valley Water Quality District along with the City of Missoula and Republic Services are sponsoring their annual Missoula City-County’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Haz Waste Days Sept. 21 and Sept. 22 at the Scott Street City Shops at the intersection of Scott and Turner in Missoula. Products will be accepted from 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Missoula County residents can dispose of hazardous materials free of charge including: oil-based paints and stains, paint thinner, degreasers, fertilizer, pesticides and rechargeable household batteries (alkaline batteries can be disposed of in the trash). Old fuel, motor oil and antifreeze will also be accepted free of charge at the event – up to 15 gallons in no-return containers (Courtesy of Republic Services). Up to 6 fluorescent tubes will be accepted from Missoula County households free-of-charge at this year’s event (not compact fluorescent bulbs – year-round, free options are available for bulbs).
Items accepted for a nominal fee include certain pesticides, caustics, strong acids and chlorinated solvents. The fee covers approximately ¼ of our costs for shipping and disposing the waste.
Businesses and out-of-county residents will be charged full costs for disposal of their waste.
