Blackhawks Take 13C District Championship

FRENCHTOWN - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks swabbed the deck with the Pirates in the semifinal and tore up the Tigers to take the 13C District Championship. The Blackhawks head to the Western C Divisional Tournament in Hamilton and will face Plains in their first game at 6:30 p.m. March 1.

The Blackhawks decimated the Victor Pirates, scoring more points in the first quarter than the Pirates did in the entire game. The final score was 66-22.

Cameron Haines led the Blackhawks, nailing 6, three-pointers for 18 points. Chance Johnson was right behind with 14 points. Chance hit 4 of 4 from the free throw line. Cordell Turner and Hunter Shelmerdine also hit 100 percent of their free throws.

Also scoring: Avery Smith 11, Keaton Johnson 8, Turner 7, Owen Mercado 5, Shelmerdine 4 and Dakota Wood 1.

In the championship game against the Darby Tigers, the Blackhawks had a solid first quarter and took an 11-point advantage into the second half. They kept the Tigers in check through the second half to the 48-34 victory.

Keaton led the Boys with 11 points followed by Smith and Haines with 10 each. The Blackhawks were dialed in from the three-point line. Haines, Smith and Turner each hit two and Keaton hit one for nearly half their points in the game.

Also scoring: Turner 8, Chance, 7 and Shelmerdine 2.

Divisional Tournament will be held Feb. 22-24 in Hamilton.
