Blackhawks Tangle with Eagles, Tigers and Pirates

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Blackhawks finished last week with a pair of wins after dropping a close game to Valley Christian. They now have a 6-4 overall record.

Versus Valley Christian

The Blackhawks hosted the Valley Christian Eagles Jan. 12.

The Boys struggled in the first quarter to control the Eagles' Zach Baugher allowing him to land 14 points. The Blackhawks headed into the second quarter trailing by 6 but held Baugher to just 5 points through the rest of the game.

The Blackhawks nearly matched the Eagles in the second quarter and worked hard through the third quarter chipping away at the Eagles' lead. They headed into the final quarter down just 3 points but couldn't overcome the Eagles. Final score was 40-45. Valley Christian remains undefeated in the district.

Bradley Miller led the Blackhawks' effort with 11 points. Nino Robinett and Cameron Haines each had a pair of three pointers and the team shot 6 of 13 from the free throw line.

Also scoring: Robinett 9; Haines 8; Chance Johnson 6 and Keaton Johnson 6.

Versus Darby

The Blackhawks headed to Darby to play the Tigers Jan. 13.

The Boys fell behind in the first quarter but recovered their deficit in the second quarter. They headed into the second half tied at 29.

The Blackhawks rallied in the third quarter putting up a 10-point lead. The Tigers were not ready to give it up quite yet and cut the Blackhawks lead to just three when the final buzzer rang. Final score was 59-56.

Keaton Johnson put in 10 baskets for 20 points to lead the Blackhawks. Bradley Miller also broke into the double digits with 15 including hitting 7 of 9 from the free throw line and 2 of the teams 3 three-pointers. The team shot 74 percent from the free throw line.

Also scoring: Avery Smith 9; Cameron Haines 6; Chance Johnson 5; Nino Robinett 2 and Hunter Shelmerdine 2.

Versus Victor

The final game of the week was a home game against the Victor Pirates Jan. 14.

The Blackhawks came out strong putting the Pirates down 12 points in the first quarter. They kept the pace going through the second quarter and extended their lead to 18 by the half.

The Pirates found some luck hitting three pointers in the third quarter but the Blackhawks picked up the pace again in the fourth to a final score of 65-37.

Keaton Johnson led the Blackhawks with 17 points. Keaton hit 3 of 4 from the free throw line while the team struggled, hitting only 5 of 13 overall.

Also scoring: Bradley Miller 10; Chance Johnson 10; Cameron Haines 10; Avery Smith 7; Cordell Turner 5; Nino Robinett 4 and Logan Robinson 2.

Next week

The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks hit the road this week with two away games at Valley Christian Jan. 20 starting at 2:30 p.m.

The teams then head to Drummond Jan. 21. Games start at 1 p.m.
