Pirates and Lynx Fall to Lady Blackhawks

The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks furthered their overall record to 11-3 and their in-conference record to 9-3. They defeated Lincoln at home before taking a win home from Victor last week.

Versus Lincoln

The Lady Blackhawks showed no mercy to the Lincoln Lynx Oct. 15 defeating them in three games, 25-8, 25-8 and 25-13.

The match was the last of the Lady Blackhawks' home games for the season and it was "Senior Night." Seniors Paige Holmes, Delaney Holzworth, Tyana Murphy and Kyndee Schmitz were all recognized ahead of the match (see page 9) and all four saw playing time.

Holmes had 4 aces, 3 digs, 9 assists and 12 kills.

Holzworth served up 3 aces, 3 digs, 1 assist and 6 kills.

Murphy had 5 digs and 1 assist while Schmitz had 1 ace and 1 kill.

Senior cross country runner Stephanie Robbins was also recognized at Senior Night.

Versus Victor

The Lady Blackhawks took on the Victor Pirates Oct 17. The Ladies outscored the Pirates more than two to one in the first game, taking it 25-11.

Games two and three were not as easy. The Ladies struggled with missed serves, errant hits and poor passing according to Head Coach Tammy Lewis.

"Volleyball's hardest skill to master is communication and we were not communicating well as a team," said Lewis.

Despite these issues, the Lady Blackhawks came out on top, winning game two and three, both 25-21. Lewis credited Lady Blackhawks Floor Captain Paige Holmes with holding the team together for the win.

Holmes led the Lady Blackhawks with 14 assists, 9 digs, 3 stuff blocks and 2 aces. Kyndee Schmitz and Delaney Holzworth each had 2 aces as well, while Alex Bohlman led with 10 kills.

This Week

The Lady Blackhawks head to Missoula to take on the Valley Christian Eagles Oct. 22 at 6 p.m., varsity only. The Eagles are one of the Lady Blackhawks' stiffest competitors this season. When the teams met earlier in the season the Lady Blackhawks lost in five close games.

The Lady Blackhawks then head to Philipsburg to take on the Granite Prospectors Oct. 24 with games starting at 4 p.m.
