PHILIPSBURG - The Blackhawks got in a couple good punches as they battled with Goliath, also known as the Flint Creek Titans, Oct. 6. Only unlike David in the Biblical battle, the Blackhawks suffered a different outcome. They were pummeled 16-68.

The first good punch came early in the game. After the Titans scored the first touchdown, the Blackhawks held them out for the extra points. The Titans kicked an onside kick and gave up the ball midfield. The Blackhawks used it.

On fourth-and-long, Logan Robinson pulled down a pass from Hunter Sokoloski for a 40-yard touchdown. The Blackhawks stuck the two-point conversion to take the lead 8-6.

It was the first time any team has led the undefeated Titans this season. A Philipsburg media outlet described the scene on the Titan’s sidelines: “Expressionless faces stood along the west sidelines, wondering what would happen next.”

Within a minute the Titans would take back over, much to the relief of their fans.

A final punch from the Blackhawks came near the end of the game. A second touchdown followed by a successful two-point conversion along with their first touchdown gave the Blackhawks a total of 16 points.

That’s the most points scored on the Titans this season. In fact, in the previous five games, the Titans have only allowed three touchdowns total and a single two-point conversion.

Blackhawks Head Coach Ryan Sokoloski said, by far, the Titans have been the best team they have played this year.

“No matter what we tried. No matter what we did. We were either coming up short or missing a block and [the Titans] had a really good game,” said Coach Sokoloski.

The Blackhawks have a week off before they face Darby in the final game of the year. The last time they faced Darby Sept. 22 they fell, 14-44.

Coach Sokoloski said they are looking forward to the rematch. While he is still seeing lingering effects of smoke, the team has made significant improvements over the early part of their season.
