Lady Blackhawks Upset Eagles for Championship

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley-Swan Lady Blackhawks brought down the undefeated Valley Christian Eagles for the District 13-C Championship in Seeley Lake Oct. 29.

The feat was easier said than done, as the Lady Blackhawks had to beat the Eagles twice in the double elimination tournament.

Both teams had a bye in the first round and defeated their opponents in three games each in the second round. The Lady Blackhawks defeated Clark Fork and Valley Christian defeated Darby.

The Lady Blackhawks sent the Eagles to the consolation bracket after defeating them in five games during the semifinal match. The Eagles faced Darby for a second time, defeating them in three games and advanced to the Championship to face the Lady Blackhawks again.

In the first championship match the Eagles defeated the Lady Blackhawks in four games forcing a second championship match.

The final match went to five games. The Lady Blackhawks came out on top, earning the conference title.

"You always hope that everything you do during the season leads to your team peaking at tournament time," said Lady Blackhawks Head Coach Tammy Lewis.

Lewis said it was a team effort to take down Valley Christian. Everyone stepped up their game and it shows in the stats. In the final championship match, the team stats were; 6 aces, 107 digs, 21 assists, 33 kills, 16 stuff blocks and 24 blocks.

Both the Lady Blackhawks and Valley Christian advance to the Western C Divisional Tournament in Butte Nov. 3-5. The Lady Blackhawks now have a 15-5 record for the season.

Versus Clark Fork

The Lady Blackhawks made quick work of the Clark Fork Coop Mountain Cats during the second round of the district tournament in Seeley Lake. The Ladies took the match in three games, 25-16, 25-17 and 25-17.

Alex Bohlman led the Lady Blackhawks with 13 kills, 12 assists and 3 blocks. Autumn Morse had 15 digs and 2 aces. Stevi Meade and Mary Strumpfer also had 2 aces each to lead the Ladies.

Versus Valley Christian Semifinal

The Lady Blackhawks fought hard to hand Valley Christian their first loss of the season. The Ladies took games one and two by a narrow margin, 25-23 and 25-22. The next two games went to Valley Christian, 19-25 and 18-25 sending the match to a fifth game.

The Lady Blackhawks we able to regain control of the match and defeated the Eagles 15-7.

The Ladies were led by Alex Bohlman with 10 kills, 11 assists and 8 blocks. Andi Bohlman also had 8 blocks and led with 2 stuff blocks. Tessa Grimes and Ashley Miller each served 2 aces and Autumn Morse had 20 digs.

Versus Valley Christian First Championship Match

The Lady Blackhawks faced Valley Christian for the second time in the district tournament after the Eagles eliminated Darby in the consolation bracket.

The Eagles came into the championship match and proved why they were the team to beat. They defeated the Lady Blackhawks 20-25 in both games one and two.

The Lady Blackhawks put up a great fight in game three, taking it 25-17, sending the match to a fourth game. The Eagles took game four 20-25 forcing a second championship match.

Andi Bohlman led the Lady Blackhawks with 1 ace, 11 blocks and 4 stuff blocks. Alex Bohlman also had 1 ace and led with 5 assists and 10 kills. Autumn Morse matched Alex's 5 assists and led with 22 digs.

Versus Valley Christian Second Championship Match

With the Lady Blackhawks and Valley Christian Eagles both having lost one match in the double elimination tournament a second championship match was needed.

The Lady Blackhawks took games one and two, 25-22 and 25-19 but couldn't hold back the Eagles in games three and four dropping them 23-25 and 20-25.

The teams traded shots in the beginning of game five with neither being able to pull ahead. The Lady Blackhawks finally broke away scoring three final unanswered points to take the game 15-11 and with it the championship title.

Alex Bohlman led with 17 kills and 10 assists. Andi Bohlman accounted for half the Ladies blocking with 12 blocks and 8 stuff blocks. Autumn Morse had a whopping 27 digs while Tessa Grimes and Mary Strumpfer scored 2 aces each.

This Week

The Lady Blackhawks head to the Western C Divisional Tournament at the MAC Center in Butte Nov. 3-5. In their first match the Ladies will face longtime rival, Drummond, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. Visit http://www.seeleylake.com for the full brackets. They will be updated throughout the tournament.
