Two wrestlers win state medals

Seeley-Swan turned in a great performance at the State. A.A.U. Wrestling tournament, a performance that culminated in two first place state championships for Seeley-Swan.

The tournament, held in Butte, featured 900 of the state's best wrestlers.

Unlike basketball and football, small schools are placed at gradient levels and do not get to compete with the big schools and 'AA' competition.

Seeley-Swan met head on against schools from Billings, Great Falls, Helena, Bozeman, Missoula, and Kalispell.

Dave Boone, age 8, was undefeated throughout the year and remained undefeated both Saturday and Sunday, thus winning the First Place Bantam Gold Medal.

Dave won many of his matches by executing a sequence or series of head and arm tie-ups, such as the Olympic Toll, Cow Catcher, or Reverse Headlock, flipping and turning his opponent with these moves and then quickly reversing the direction of his move, taking advantage of his opponent's momentum & pinning him.

Dave's techniques have been so successful that other clubs began emulating them during the year, and nicknaming this particular technique "THE BOONE MOVE".

Dave is the son of Bill and Mary Boone. Dave has been wrestling for 3 years. Last Year he placed 3rd at the A.A.U. State Tournament.

Tyler Schwarz age 1, son of Larry and Karen Schwarz, remained undefeated throughout the tournament, thus capturing the First Place Junior Gold Medal.

Tyler has been wrestling for 3 years. The first year he wrestled in the 'LITTLE GUY' program and made it to divisional his first year.

Last year, wrestling, A.A.U. freestyle, Tyler advanced to the State Tournament where he won 3rd place.

He advanced to the Northwest Regionals where he won 3rd place competing against wrestlers from 12 northwest states and invitational teams from Canada and Alaska.

Working with basic wrestling techniques, Tyler's style of wrestling is marked by aggressiveness and his knowledge of various moves and countermoves.

It is a real credit to both Tyler and Dave's improvement in techniques, discipline, dedication, and desire to excel, that the have both moved from 3rd place runner-ups to become state champions the next year.

Honorable mentions goes to the other Seeley-Swan wrestlers who made it to the state tournament, Pat Morin, Jacob Baker, Lelan Anders, and Danny Boone.

All Taped Up!

Hal Bellusci, Principal of Swan Valley School in Condon, was wrapped to a pole with duct tape, and left hanging for several moments on Tuesday, April 14.

Each student who had a parent show up for Parent- Teacher Conference, was allowed one complete wrap with duct tape around Mr. Bellusci and the pole.

With a few extra wraps for security, the stool Mr. B was standing on was removed. After the cheering of the students and teachers, Mr. B. was carefully removed from the pole...and duct tape.

What a guy! We don't remember a principal like that when we were in school.
