New building to house restaurant, Double Front Chicken plans Seeley Lake store

Double Front Chicken, a 28-year-old specialty restaurant in Missoula, will soon be opening a Seeley Lake restaurant.

Gene Herndon, owner of the Missoula restaurant, will be opening the one here in partnership with Kelly Piche who has been cooking at the Missoula store for the past 15 years.

Herndon said that he's had a special feeling for this area dating back to 1955 when he started coming up here for hunting, fishing, water skiing and the winter sports.

In 1980 he bought a lot on the Double Arrow and built a cabin there.

"I feel like I have a built-in clientele," Herndon said.

His Seeley Lake acquaintances have been steadily growing over the years when Kim Haines, Seeley-Swan High School principal, first started stopping in at the Missoula restaurant with busloads of students enroute to athletic or other school events.

Construction will begin as soon as the pending application for an all-beverage liquor license is finalized, and that process is just about completed, Herndon said.

We won't be in the bar business, Herndon stressed, but we do want a lounge for customer convenience if they're waiting for seating.

Youth speaking out on government

"The only people who should be in the government are those who care more about people than they do about power," said Millicent Fenwick.

Essay by Jeremiah Rittel

The power available to a person elected to lead a nation is very extreme, so the person who wields this power should not abuse people or any other thing. The results of this happening could be damaging and maybe even involve war. People in the government should make thoroughly thought out ideas, instead of ideas that involve senseless things like greed. The government should not abuse people or the earth because they can use the power they have for better things.

What I think the government should use their power for is improving the system, government, laws, and community; helping people instead of disagreeing; and finally, protecting people. The power of leadership is so important and needs so much responsibility that in the wrong hands it could be seriously harmful.

Essay by Jesse Swigert

I think what she was trying to say is if you care more about the power then you shouldn't be in the government, but if you care about the people and their concerns, then you do have a right to be in the government. If you do have power and don't use it wisely, it could hurt the people in your community and maybe your surroundings.

People have concerns and worries. That's why we have a government and the people of the government need to listen to them. Our government needs to be able to work for improvements instead of playing power games with our community. If government leaders care about power instead of people, our country will fall apart. Right about now, our country needs a better president, because he sometimes doesn't listen to what we the people have to say. Just keep in mind, people are more important than power.
