Volleyball loses two key conference games

The Seeley Swan High School Volleyball Team faced a few setbacks in its season, losing to both Drummond and Valley Christian last week.

The team now sits at 8-5 as it moves into its final four games. Head Coach Janelle Greenwood said the team has been working on new rotations and improving game mentality.

The first game, against Drummond at home on Oct. 2, featured an undefeated conference foe. The Tojans started the game hot, winning the first set 13-25. In the second set, the Blackhawks stayed tight with Drummond, at one period scoring five points in a row.

But Drummond took set two behind strong outside hitting and defensive composure. The third set went by quickly, 25-15.

The second game against Valley Christian on the road featured a big venue in the University of Montana's Adams Center. Greenwood said the larger atmosphere overwhelmed the Blackhawks at times, and the team lost in three sets to Valley Christian.

With a series split with Valley Christian, the Blackhawks sit just ahead in third place of western Class C. The team now will play Philipsburg at home on Oct. 12, which could help decide second place in the conference.
