Volleyball sweeps Victor on the road

The Seeley Swan Volleyball Team started a three game road trip on a high note last Thursday, Sept. 21, defeating the Victor Pirates in three sets.

The Blackhawks Volleyball team won its second game in a row off of a strong offensive tempo and staying alert on the defense, according to head coach Janelle Greenwood. The team currently stands 4-3, not including a few wins from local tournaments.

"We started off really strong, but it is hard to keep up such a good tempo," Greenwood said.

The Blackhawks took set one handedly 25-14. Greenwood said Kilty Hanson led the team defensively along the net, keeping Pirate plays from reaching the Blackhawks's side.

Setter Aubrey Matthew, who leads the team in assists, dealt several good lead ups for hitters like Darby Gleason and Rilyn Richardson to spike the ball down for points. The second set went to the Blackhawks 25-17.

Amaiya Dalrymple and Hattie Batchelder also contributed points from the outside. Seeley-Swan won set three 25-20, making at least two games where the Blackhawks did not give up a set.

With the win, Greenwood hopes the momentum continues as the team hits the road for two more games. The first will be at Superior High School on Sept. 26, and at Lincoln on Sept. 28. The Blackhawks have also now reached the halfway point of the season with the victory over Victor.

"That means each game is going to matter more and more each game," Greenwood said. "We are just trying to zone in on defense and coverage. We have a good base, it's just about adding to that base."

The volleyball team will be back at home on Sept. 29 to take on St. Regis.
