Medicare assistance is available for Seeley Lake area residents

SEELEY LAKE, MT - Get the basics on how Medicare works, sign up, and review your options for coverage when you schedule a one-on-one appointment here in Seeley Lake with Kristin Mason, Rural Resource Specialist with Missoula Aging Services.

“Medicare offers different options for health care coverage and these Resource appointments can help you learn about your options, find out when you can join a plan (or get supplemental coverage), and compare plans to determine which plan meets your needs,” she shared. “It’s important to consider all your options. Medicare Open Enrollment gives individuals the opportunity to review and make changes to their current Advantage Plans. Even if you just have a Part D (Drug Plan) it’s just as important to shop all plans, because they will go into effect Jan. 1, 2024. Simply put, Medicare is health insurance for people 65 and older. If you are over 65, it’s important to review your plan each year to make sure it still meets your needs. Missoula Aging Services provides expert, unbiased assistance for all your Medicare and Medicaid questions in a variety of ways: Resource Center appointments are available in Seeley Lake throughout the year, monthly New to Medicare workshops offered both in-person and over Zoom, and Open Enrollment consultations each fall that help individuals compare plans and save money.

People become eligible to sign up for Medicare three months before turning 65 or during Open Enrollment, which takes place between Oct. 15 and Dec. 7 this year.

Please note, you may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a qualifying disability, End-Stage Renal Disease, or ALS.

It’s important to note that if you have Medicare and are not signed up for a Part D, you may be getting a monthly penalty even if you don’t take any medications. Now is a good time to consider your options, because the upcoming Medicare Open Enrollment period is the time to sign up.”

Watch for special opportunities this fall at the Seeley Swan Pharmacy, where Mason will be available to answer questions. Missoula Aging Services proudly partners with the Seeley Swan Pharmacy, that just celebrated 15 years serving residents of Seeley Lake.
