Charlie's Helping Hands plans to make impact

Now entering into its third year, Charlie’s Helping Hands is working to solidify its presence in Seeley Lake, with the goal of helping the most children it possibly can.

“We want to help with whatever the youth need for trying to survive,” Executive Director Mark Wilson said. “There’s no agenda, as issues present themselves, we want to deal with them.”

Charlie’s Helping Hands has been partnering with schools and people directly for supply financial support. Whether that be new jerseys for a sports team, or money for a new playground, Wilson said the nonprofit is ready to collaborate to keep growing the area’s support network.

Charlie’s Helping Hands is named after Charles Wolff, a summertime resident of the area who Wilson said loved flying, golfing and fishing, in that order. Wilson said Wolff always cared about others and had a knack for giving and respecting people from all walks of life.

“He put a smile on so many faces around here,” Wilson said.

Wolff and his friend Wayne Cahoon both died in an airplane crash in Seeley in September 2020. Cahoon’s son survived the crash, and got funds from the first-ever Charlie Wolff Memorial Golf Tournament, now called the Charlie’s Helping Hands.

Since 2021, Charlie’s Helping Hands has served as a way to continue Charlie’s legacy. Funds from the annual golf tournament go to a general fund that young people can access. Wilson said partnering with other nonprofits fundraisers has also been very successful.

“When we had glass drop-off day we had people giving glass, and giving a donation to help with the processing,” Wilson said. “Well some of that money went to the schools, and it wouldn’t have happened without all the generous people here.”

To get involved with the organization, contact Mark Wilson at 406-240-3987. Forms are available for pickup at local schools, but Wilson said it just takes a call to get a conversation on a topic going
