New, Improved Folf Signs for Updated Course

During the 2020-2021 school year, Seeley-Swan High School students and teachers began the process of improving the Frisbee-golf -referred to by players as "folf"- course behind the school.

The Blackhawk Disc Golf Course, created and maintained by the SSHS Student Council, offers 18 challenging holes that wind through towering larch and ponderosa pine. The course is lengthy and may be confusing to navigate for out-of-town visitors or people who don't regularly play Frisbee-golf. So SSHS teachers Michele Holmes and Trace Stone thought it would be a good project for students to get involved in the town.

Holmes worked with her graphic design students to design the new signs. Alumni Trista Mackie-Wendel started off the process by designing a rudimentary layout for the signs.

The next year, (2021-2022) students Tate McNutt and Seth Dunster took over, completing Mackie-Wendel's design, making them uniform throughout, but different for each basket. They then sent their designs out to production.

The new signs were installed this school year, with the help of Stone's Student Council. The project was able to happen with the help of former Seeley Lake area realtor Carey Kanavel, who donated $250 toward the production costs of the signs.

The course now has clear signs marking each basket with a number, as well as a map showing where the next basket is located. Download the UDisc app for easy navigation and begin at the northeast corner of the high school gym. Loaner discs are available at the office and library.
