Local artists donate to Chamber Banquet

Several local artists are making donations of time, effort and artwork in conjunction with the May 17 banquet and fundraiser sponsored by the Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Contribution artists are: Nancy Knecht, Unicorn Folk Art painting; Jeanne Moon, Jeanne Moon Calligraphy; Charles Parker, Calligraphy; Susan Van Rooy Smith, Singletree Saddlery; Roger Wade, Roger Wade Photography; Joy Clement, Joy Words; Carol Poppenga Bourne, Widowmaker Gallery/Studio; Misty Sarvis, Scratchboard Art and Roger Thomas, Wildlife and Landscape artist.

Ron Ukrainetz of Lindbergh Lake has also donated Scratchboard Art for a raffle and auction to be held during the banquet.

Roger Wade Photography will be offering $5.00 family or individual portraits throughout the evening of the banquet.

Results of first chess tournament at Seeley Lake Elementary School

The Seeley Lake Elementary Chess Club held its first annual tournament on April 26th, 2003.

Thirteen young men showed up to compete for medals in four divisions. The winners were:

Division 1: 1st Brad Varner, 2nd Will Bernstrauch, 3rd Randy Varner

Division 2: 1st Jacob Stratton, 2nd Ryan Bowers, 3rd Leland Hatten

Division 3: 1st Travis Hals, 2nd Connor Collins, 3rd Brad Varner

Division 4: 1st Kieran Collins, 2nd Adam Snobar

Special Awards were presented for: Novice Player of the Tournament: Chris McAnally

Most Extraordinary Game of the Tournament: Jacob Stratton

Sportsmanship Award: Connor Collins

Mentors Mark and Cindy Kopenhafer were presented with certificates of Community Service for their continuing support of our club.

In addition, Kevin Stroh (High School Chess Coach) Conrad Collins and Jeff and Toni Hatten were given Community Service Certificates for their help with the tournament.

Players and sponsors enjoyed a nice lunch of pizza and pop thanks to a mini-grant from the EEE fund. This grant also helped to purchase additional chess sets and the medals which were awarded at the tournament.
