Local journalism goes to Washington

Jesse Mullen, owner of the Seeley Swan Pathfinder visits with Senator Steve Daines (R) about the Local Journalism Sustainability Act on Thursday in Washington DC. The Local Journalism Sustainability Act is intended to support local newspaper as the industry continues to evolve to a more digital environment while maintaining journalistic integrity. H.R. 3940 was introduced by Sen. Maria Cantrell [D-WA] in the 117th Congress. The bills propose a series of three tax credits - for advertising in local newspapers and local media, subscription to local newspapers, and payroll credit for the compensation of journalists - all aimed at bolstering local newspapers and news media.
