Fire Damages Resort Cabin

An early morning fire last week damaged a cabin at Tamaracks Resort north of Seeley Lake.  The occupants of the cabin, James Williamson, his wife and four children, were treated for smoke inhalation as a result of the fire, but were otherwise okay.  About ten volunteers from the Seeley Lake Fire Company responded to the call at 8 a.m. last Tuesday. According to Fire Chief Burmeister, a log floor joist had been smoldering beneath the cement which housed the cabin’s fireplace.

Memorial Flag to be Raised

A memorial flag will be flown at the Swan Valley Community Hall from December 31 through January 2.  Members of the Swan Valley American Legion, Post 63 will raise the memorial flag in honor of Robert “Tuffy” Anderson, deceased veteran.

Seeley Lake Artist Carves State Bird for Whitehouse Tree

Jon West, Seeley Lake artist well known for his carvings of birds, carved a Western Meadowlark, the state bird of Montana, which was one of hundreds of ornaments that decorated the Whitehouse Christmas tree this season.  This year, First Lady Laura Bush chose the theme “All Creatures Great and Small” and artists from all states were chosen to submit ornamental birds for the Whitehouse Christmas tree. 

Tracy Ann Robinett Graduates From U of M

Seven hundred fifty-four students are candidates for degrees autumn semester 2002. The total includes nine certificates, 41 associate’s, 517 bachelor’s, 168 master’s, three education specialists, three juris doctor and 29 doctoral degrees. Sixteen students earned two degrees each. Tracy Ann Robinett, Seeley Lake, was a University of Montana degree candidate at the end of autumn semester.
