Clearwater dump station stays closed

By Jean Pocha

The RV dump station at Clearwater Junction has been closed since spring 2019, with no foreseeable opening, the Seeley Lake Community Council and members of the public heard at their regular meeting on Nov. 14.

For repairs or rebuilding to happen to the RV dump station at Clearwater Junction, the Montana State Legislature will have to vote to appropriate funds at the next session, January 2023, stated District Ranger Quinn Carver. County Commissioners have written a letter to Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) asking for the dump station to be placed at a high priority for upcoming projects.

In the article, “Clearwater Junction RV dump site remains closed,” published in the May 27, 2021 issue, the Pathfinder reported that FWP estimated the entire structure needed to be replaced, which came with a price tag of $400,000. Very few users pay the $5 fee to dump.

Council member Bruce Friede said that he was around when the dump was built at Clearwater Junction. FWP had invested money into the Placid Lake campground and day use areas on Salmon Lake so they also built the dump station, which was a no-pay site because the license for the campers helped fund that system.
