Camp Paxson to host first Larch Day Oct. 1

September 22, 2022

SEELEY LAKE – Camp Paxson will be open to the public on Oct. 1st from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. for Larch Day. The Open House is an opportunity for area residents to visit and learn about the educational programs offered at Camp Paxson. Entrance to the event is free.

“Our goal is to introduce the Seeley Lake and Swan Valley community to the outdoor education activities that we plan to offer to third, fourth and fifth graders during the shoulder seasons of spring and fall,” said Helen Mulroney, Camp Paxson Preservation Project board member. Currently the facility has been used by a few area schools for day trips. The plan is to offer overnight camping experiences with outdoor education for the students.

Along with tours of the facility the Camp Paxson Preservation Project will serve hamburgers and soft drinks and offer hands on activities such as building a beaver dam on the beach and building a bird’s nest. An area behind the lodge will be set up for additional nature art.  All activities will be outdoors, weather permitting.

“We hope visitors will enjoy exploring the camp, the beach and surrounding larch forest,” Mulroney said.

Those present will be encouraged to sign in for the cash prize raffle to be held at the end of the day. Members of Camp Paxson and the Camp Paxson Preservation Project Larch Outdoor Education will be present to answer questions. Camp Paxon representatives will also be accepting donations to support the project going forward.
