Blackfoot Challenge block party brings people together

OVANDO - Children held impromptu foot races down Main Street, country music serenaded the crowd and food trucks provided dinner for the Fourth Annual Blackfoot Challenge Block Party Aug. 10 in downtown Ovando.

"Welcome to the Annual Block Party," said Jim Stone, Chairman of the Blackfoot Challenge Board of Directors. "On behalf of the Challenge, we want to thank you all for all you do to support the Blackfoot Challenge and one another to keep our community strong."

"The Block Party is hosted by the Challenge to thank the community for supporting the Challenge, bring people together and celebrate why we love the valley," said Seth Wilson, Executive Director Blackfoot Challenge.

The Thirsty Buzzards, a country-western band from Drummond, entertained the crowd for the evening. It was notable that the well-versed band is composed of one recent graduate of Drummond High School and two Drummond High School seniors.

Food trucks from Lindey's Prime Steak House and Balsamroot Catering provided food for the event, as well as a bake sale by Jean Pocha. The Stray Bullet hosted a beer garden and the Blackfoot Commercial Company stayed open for ice cream.

Over 200 people attended; eating, visiting, listening to the music and braving the occasional raindrop. Participants came from Ovando, Helmville, Potomac, Lincoln and the surrounding area. A silent auction was held to support conservation projects.

"We want to hold the Block Party to thank the residents and landowners who are stewarding and conserving our watershed," said Wilson. "We want to stay connected to the community we serve."
