SEELEY LAKE — The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Knife River Corporation will be working on Montana Highway 83 (MT 83) between Seeley Lake and Salmon Lake beginning the week of Aug. 15, weather permitting.
Crews will be resurfacing the roadway with a thin lift overlay north of the Salmon Lake Reconstruction Project area beginning around mile marker 9. Road work signs will be posted just north of Salmon Lake State Park at mile marker 7.5 and heading north ending near Redwood Lane at mile marker 14. Road work is anticipated to last for approximately one week, weather permitting.
Travelers can expect delays along with reduced speeds, and single lane traffic, and uneven pavement during construction. Traffic controls including additional signage, traffic signals, flaggers, and pilot cars will also be present to guide traffic through the construction zone. A 12-foot width restriction will be in place during construction.
MDT encourages the public to be cautious at all times and leave additional time for travel. MDT wants everyone to remember the three S’s of work zone safety: speed, space and stress. Slow down in work zones and follow speed limits. Leave enough room around your vehicle. Stay calm and pay attention to the road. Be prepared for delays, so before you leave, download MDT’s mobile app “MDT 511” or visit 511mt.net and check your route. If you're driving and want to check in, pull safely off the road and dial 511. Tune in to local radio stations and watch for variable message signs along the route.
The public is encouraged to contact District Public Relations Specialist Megan Redmond at (406) 396-1978 with any questions or comments.
