Missoula County launches Pet Commissioner contest

Is your dog the natural leader of the pack? Does your cat have discerning judgment? Or maybe your parrot likes to voice its strong opinions? Then they might just have what it takes to be Missoula County’s first-ever Pet Commissioner.

Missoula County invites residents to enter their furry, feathery or scaly friends in its inaugural Pet Commissioner contest. Submissions will be accepted through Saturday, Aug. 20. Voting will take place Sunday, Aug. 21 - Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The contest will take place on Missoula County Voice, the digital engagement platform the County launched earlier this year. The platform provides a convenient, accessible way for residents to learn about County projects and initiatives and to share their ideas and opinions on them.

Residents can visit MissoulaCountyVoice.com/2022-Pet-Commissioner-Contest to register for the platform and submit their pets. Pets of all kinds are eligible. The pet with the most votes will be declared winner after the contest closes on Sunday, Aug. 31 at 11:59 p.m. The Missoula County Commissioners will issue a special proclamation to the winner during a public meeting in September and the winner will also receive a $25 gift card to Murdoch’s Ranch and Home Supply.

“It’s not always easy being a commissioner, but we think there are plenty of Missoula County pets who are up for the job,” said Commissioner Chair Juanita Vero. “We hope the public will join in this fun way to engage with local government. We’re excited to see who the winner is.”

Members of the public can learn more by visiting the Missoula County information booths at the Western Montana Fair from 12-8 p.m. Aug. 10 - Aug. 13 and from 12-6 p.m. Aug. 14.
