Public invited to Parks and Trails Steward Award presentation June 16

SEELEY LAKE – The public is invited to attend a presentation of the 2022 Missoula County Parks and Trails Steward Award to the Veterans and Families of Seeley Lake (VFSL) at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16. The Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board and the Missoula County Board of County Commissioners will present the award at the Veterans Memorial Garden, on Highway 83 just north of Seeley Lake. The annual award recognizes individuals and organizations who have dedicated years of service to creating and improving public facilities across Missoula County.

GSK Science in the Summer presents “Be a Biologist” at local libraries

Elementary school-aged children are invited to “Be a Biologist” Wednesday, June 15 from 1:30 – 4:30 p.m. at the Potomac Library, Monday, June 20 from 1-4 p.m. at the Swan Valley Library and Wednesday, June 22 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Seeley Lake Community Library. The libraries will be hosting GSK Science in the Summer STEM Program, a fun and free science education program sponsored by GSK, in partnership with The Franklin Institute.

Children will get to identify fossils, help animals, explore habitats and more. Visit http://www.scienceinthesummer.com for more information or call the library directly. Children are welcome to attend for the entire session or drop in as time allows.

Swan Valley Community Council continues transfer site discussion June 21

Swan Valley - The Swan Valley Community Council will meet Tuesday, June 21 at 6 p.m. in the Swan Valley Community Hall. The agenda includes continued discussion with Missoula County Public Works Department regarding the proposed garbage transfer site in Condon.

In new business, there will be presentations and discussion with Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Bear/Lion Specialist Justine Vallieres and Karen Hughes with the Missoula County Land Use Planning Department.

Resident Edward Klassen is on the agenda to discuss the possibility of holding future meetings via Zoom or Microsoft Teams.

There will also be an opportunity to comment on non-agenda items. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Satellite Office closed June 23

SEELEY LAKE - The Seeley Lake Satellite office of Missoula County Treasurer will be CLOSED June 23. It will be open regular hours from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. June 30. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Clearwater Watercraft Inspection May Update

GREENOUGH – The Clearwater Junction Watercraft Inspection Station continues to lead the state this spring in number of inspections by station. By May 31, the Clearwater WIS had inspected 3,882 watercraft, nearly double the next closest WIS in Ravalli who has inspected 2,000 watercraft. At the end of May there were 25 fouled vessels statewide, two of which were inspected at Clearwater WIS.

In May, Sunday was the busiest day for inspections with 695. The number of inspections bottomed out Tuesday with 354 inspections and then gradually climbed into the weekend. The most common watercraft inspected was outboard motor followed by raft, drift boat and then kayak.

Everyone is encouraged to Clean, Drain and Dry their boats to help keep Montana waters healthy. Anyone with a watercraft must stop at all inspection stations.

Weekly COVID-19 update

As of June 13 there have been 280,965 cases of COVID-19 in Montana. There have been 1,486,799 doses of vaccines administered and 566,205 Montanans fully immunized. There are 2,123 active cases, 12,159 total hospitalizations and 3,434 deaths in Montana due to COVID-19 complications. Missoula County has had 28,644 cases, 339 active cases, 28,096 recovered and 209 COVID-related deaths to date.
