Larry Clark Weatherman June 16, 1942 – April 23, 2022

Swan Song

SEELEY LAKE - Larry Clark Weatherman, 79 of Seeley Lake, Montana, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family April 23 of natural causes.

Larry was born in Anaconda, Montana on June 16, 1942 to Florence and Homer Weatherman. At 13, Larry lost his father and became the man of the house. Three years later his youngest sister Judy was tragically killed. Larry was a father figure to his two remaining siblings Jim and Linda and helped his mother raise them.

Larry graduated from Anaconda High School in 1961 and promptly joined the Navy where he served on the USS Gregory and the USS Princeton until the end of his enlistment in 1965. On Dec. 3, 1965 Larry married his childhood sweetheart Diane Gilbert. Together they had three children Brett, Sara and Matt and made their home in Missoula.

After completing his service in the Navy, Larry began his college education at the University of Montana where he earned two degrees in sociology and criminology. As shown in the photo, Larry wanted to be a cop since he was a young boy. Larry began his career as a patrol officer under then Sheriff John Moe. Quickly rising to rank of detective, Larry found his rightful place. After attending the FBI academy Larry was offered a position within the FBI but turned it down to raise his family in Montana, a selfless gift we are thankful for to this day.

Larry had trouble adjusting to retirement and decided to work on cold cases gratis in order to give closure to families of crime victims. Larry became a federal marshal before finally retiring to spend his time with family, pets and creating art at his beloved property in Seeley Lake.

Larry was a very accomplished artist and our family home is decorated with his sculptures, paintings and furniture. He was also an incredible photographer and was published in a magazine that featured his picture of a lighthouse.

Our dad carried his considerable burdens with a light heart. He spent his entire career and life helping those in despair. He was a father to our friends when they needed one, to our own children and to his wide group of friends and acquaintances. He helped raise many more kids than he created. He was our hero and we will miss him for the rest of our lives.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55+ years Diane Weatherman; his children Brett (Ezra, Carmen, Veronica), Sara Weatherman (Taelor Orbe) and Matt (Brodie and Bryn). He was predeceased by his parents Homer and Florence and his beloved younger sister Judy.

Larry's ashes will be spread under his favorite tamarack tree on our parents' property at a later date per his request.

Larry loved children. Instead of flowers the family suggests making a charitable donation to children's charity of your choice in his name or buy a cop a cup of coffee. Please stop by the Garden City funeral home website to leave your stories, comments and laughs about Larry. These will be greatly appreciated by the family.
