MSU Extension seeks input for community needs survey

OVANDO - Bo Walker from the Powell County Montana State University Extension Service conducted a listening session in Ovando May 10. The session was part of a statewide needs assessment process by the Extension Service to learn about issues currently facing Montanans. An online survey is available for those who can’t go to a listening session. The survey will close May 31.

The purpose of the survey is to gather feedback from community members to improve  resources, programs and services the Extension Office provides to Montanans. Results of the survey will be used to prioritize programming, support interdisciplinary partnerships, additional development and delivery of programs, future grant proposals and funding requests.

The Ovando listening session included an introductory presentation by Walker and an interest survey with topics including: agriculture; youth; our community; families, finance; health and nutrition; and other interdisciplinary topics. Participants wrote down their areas of concern or interest under the appropriate topic. Each person then had six adhesive dots to vote for the topics that meant the most to them.

Top topics in Ovando were bear management, gardening classes, having a local butcher, year-round porta-potties, local economic development, healthcare for elderly and disabled, bringing in young families, road maintenance and enhancing local law enforcement for Northern Powell County.

All Montanans are invited to complete an online survey and participants can enter a drawing for a $50 Visa gift card. The survey is available at https://montana.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9Zd3NlYDy9wRwuq

Paper surveys are also available at local Extension Offices. For questions or information about the survey or listening sessions, contact Carrie Ashe at carrie.ashe@montana.edu or 406-994-3293.
