Hoag breaks school 200-meter record

MISSOULA - Seeley-Swan's Owen Hoag set an unexpected school record while Seeley-Swan's Boys took third and the Girls took fourth at the Seeley-Swan Invite track meet April 23. Beaverhead County and Bigfork took the top spots in both the boys and girls points while Superior edged out Seeley-Swan's Girls for third.

"For the 200 [school record], it really wasn't even a goal for me. I hadn't even considered breaking it," said Hoag.

Hoag has been focused on the 400-meter this season where he is less than a half second away from Hunter Shelmerdine's 2019 school record.

For the first time this season, Hoag didn't run the 400 and he felt it helped him run the record setting time in the 200. Hoag said he's usually tired for the 200 because the 400 is always run first at track meets.

Another factor that might have helped was that Hoag was chasing Treyton Anderson of Beaverhead County. Anderson set the fastest 200 time in the state across all classes at the Seeley-Swan Invite crossing the finish at 22.09.

Hoag's time of 22.71 seconds broke Logan Robinson's 2019 record of 22.73.

Other highlights from the Seeley-Swan Invite include the Boys 4x400 relay team putting up the fastest Class C time in the state this season winning the event with a time of 3:34.10 minutes. For the Girls, Sariah Maughan continues to dominate the 400 and 1600 taking first place in both events.

This week Seeley-Swan's top athletes compete at the Russ Pilcher Top 10 April 26 and then the team heads to Great Falls April 30 for the Fairfield Belt State Preview.
