2022 Loon & Fish Festival Art Show and Sale returns

Alpine Artisans has bragging rights on holding the world’s only Loon and Fish Festival, scheduled this year for Friday evening and all day Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20. We describe this festival as a “celebration of art and nature in the Seeley-Swan and Blackfoot Valleys,” and the main feature is a community art show and sale featuring the work of over 30 local artists from Lincoln to Swan Valley. Held in the Foundation Building in Seeley Lake, the show features marquetry wood pieces, jewelry, paintings (all media), embroidery, bead work, origami, ceramics, mixed media, sculpture, photography and more. In addition, this year there will be indoor and outdoor art demos.

In addition to the art sale, AAI hosts a community-wide raffle offering outdoor gear and/or experiences which has been the primary fundraiser for our Youth Grant and Scholarship Program servicing our five area schools.

This year, the traditional Soup Bowl Sale will also benefit the Youth Grant and Scholarship Fund. This year we’ll be serving huckleberry ice cream instead of soup! The Seeley Swan High School art students are making and glazing the bowls this year to learn about the art of pottery making and to participate in an event that is meant to benefit them!

The annual festival logo competition is back as well! There will be a call for art to all our artist members to submit their idea for a logo for this year’s publicity. Last year’s poster of historical Loon and Fish logos will again be available for sale at the festival. It features all the logo winners in the past 22-year history of the festival!

Our valleys cherish our small loon population, and we partner with the Montana Loon Society for loon talks as part of the festival. We’ll be featuring a variety of children’s activities, live music and outdoor exhibits by local conservation and wildlife groups the second day of the festival. Join us to carry on the long tradition of this unique festival!
