The oxymoron of proposed smoke management

Letter to the Editor

In last week’s Pathfinder, Missoula City-County Health Department Air Quality Specialist Ben Schmidt said the reason for the proposed zone is to address wood smoke, something research has proven to be a negative impact on people’s health.

Does anyone else find it odd that the government wants to regulate smoke emissions from a wood stove, but have no problem letting the forest burn all summer? The amount of smoke we choke on during the summer months far exceeds that which we ingest during the winter months. It just goes to show, that most everything the government does, they do badly and inefficiently.
