Dial Trucking brings a new set of wheels to the road

SEELEY LAKE – Tylen Dial Trucking LLC is celebrating one year in business this month hauling logs and equipment for area businesses.

"Leland Cahoon convinced be to buy my own truck," he said. Dial started looking for a truck and everything just fell into place. Dial hopes to grow his business into a fleet of trucks in the future. He said right now businesses struggle to hire people with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Dial moved to Seeley Lake in 2013 as a junior in high school. He graduated from Seeley-Swan High School in 2014. He attended the University of Montana for one year. He then head off to North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and received his welder certification. He decided quickly that was not his calling.

Dial received a job offer from Brett Haines to work in the logging industry.

"Once I grabbed a saw, I knew I found my calling," he said.

Dial started by cutting trees and bumping limbs off logs then he moved into operating equipment. In 2018 Dial decided to get his CDL and operated Haines' log truck for two years.

Dial also worked in the spring doing dirt work and road prep for Kyle O'Brien before striking out on his own. The challenges are learning the ins and outs of owning a business, Dial said.

"I have always worked for someone else," he said. Now all the maintenance of the truck, keeping up on insurance and fuel costs keeps him busy along with spending long days behind the wheel of his truck.

"There is also the motivation of being your own boss," he said. "It is easy to say, I don't think I will work today. That doesn't keep things going." Dial works hard to be efficient at his tasks. "Time is money," he said.

Dial lives in Seeley Lake and enjoys the small community. He is willing to travel outside Missoula County for work. Last summer he spent several weeks in California working on the fires.

Tylen Dial Trucking LLC currently contracts with Bull Creek Forestry but is available as time allows to haul logs or move equipment for a fee. He can be reached at 406-499-2588.
