Food Bank expanding services

SEELEY LAKE - New Seeley Swan Community Food Bank President Lulu Rodriguez and her board are looking to add services to the area. Currently the Food Bank is open every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. next to the Seeley Lake Elementary School multipurpose room.

"We are hoping to open on Saturdays, once a month," Rodriguez said. "We have a lot of people who can't get to us during the day. The Food Bank wants to support them too."

People must complete an application as services are typically income qualifying. "At the moment we are serving anybody that comes in," she said.

Rodriguez added there is currently a campaign to reach out to those who are homebound or just can't get to the Food Bank.

"We can't solicit them," she said. The Food Bank has worked with Meals on Wheels to send out flyers to community members.

Homebound people can call and leave a message at 406-677-5025, volunteers are prepared to bring the application, help complete and deliver their food at the same time.

Currently there are eight volunteers with five substitutes. More volunteers are needed to start the Saturday program, Rodriguez said.

"We have people that come in for the summer and they volunteer while they're here too," she said. "We really couldn't do it without these volunteers."

The Food Bank continues to take food and monetary donations throughout the year.

"We're very fortunate," Rodriguez said. "We have great support in our community,"

Rodriguez and her husband Dan moved to Seeley Lake about four years ago from Texas to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She worked for 18 years as an administrative assistant. Rodriguez got involved with the Food Bank because she was looking for something to do and wanted to meet people and help in the community.
