Lady Blackhawks take fourth at Western C

FRENCHTOWN - The Lady Blackhawks season came to an end at the Western C Divisional Tournament Feb. 24-26 but they didn't go down without a fight. The Lady Blackhawks had two wins and two losses to finish out their season with a 22-2 record.

In their opening game the Lady Blackhawks faced the West Yellowstone Wolverines. After trailing early in the game, the Lady Blackhawks rebounded in the second quarter outscoring the Wolverines 17-2. They held them off through the second half to a 50-36 victory.

The Lady Blackhawks advanced to the semifinal where they met the Manhattan Christian Eagles. The Eagles promised to be a tough team with just a single loss in their season.

The Lady Blackhawks kept pace with the Eagles early in the game until a pair of three pointers in the last minute of the first quarter put the Eagles up 5-12. The Lady Blackhawks fought back but they could never quite catch the Eagles. They suffered their first loss of the season with a final score of 41-50.

The loss sent the Lady Blackhawks into the consolation bracket where they faced a more familiar opponent, the Superior Bobcats. The Bobcats were easily defeated 55-43 and the Lady Blackhawks headed into the consolation game against Shields Valley.

The Lady Blackhawks held a small lead through much of the game. In the fourth quarter a pair of three pointers from Shields Valley put the Lady Blackhawks down for the first time. The Lady Blackhawks could not recover and fell 36-37.

With the loss, the Lady Blackhawks' season ended in fourth place at the tournament.

Emily Maughan led the Lady Blackhawks in the tournament scoring an average of 11.5 points per game. She scored 14 points against both Manhattan Christian and West Yellowstone.

Tegan Mauldin averaged nearly 11 points per game with her best of 16 points against Superior. She had the Lady Blackhawks' most three pointers with her best hitting 5 against Superior.

Sariah Maughan and Dani Sexton both averaged 7.3 points per game. S. Maughan's best game was 10 points against West Yellowstone while Sexton shined against Manhattan Christian with 13 points.

Three other Lady Blackhawks had their top scoring game against Superior. Kyla Conley, Ava Thornsberry and Trista Alexander scored 7, 5 and 2 points respectively. Mia Saalfeld's best game was against Manhattan Christian when she scored 6 while Aubrey Matthew came off the bench to score a free throw against West Yellowstone.

Twin Bridges came out on top in the Western C after defeating Manhattan Christian 45-41 in the final. Shields Valley challenged for second place but fell to Manhattan Christian.
