Seeley-Swan heads to Districts

SEELEY LAKE - The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks wrapped up their regular season taking on Charlo on the road and hosting Hot Springs Feb. 11 and 12.

Charlo put up the best fight of the season for the undefeated Lady Blackhawks. The Lady Blackhawks led by 9 at the half but Charlo fought back tying the game at 40-40 and sent the game into overtime.

In overtime, the Lady Blackhawks shut out Charlo. Kyla Conley put in one basket and then she and Tegan Mauldin each shot 3 of 4 free throws in overtime to cement the victory and preserve the Lady Blackhawks' winning streak. Final score was 48-40.

Conley led the Lady Blackhawks with 13 points followed by Dani Sexton with 10 and Mauldin with 9. Emily Maughan and Sariah Maughan had 8 apiece.

The Boys also met stiff competition at Charlo and fought hard through the first three quarters. Heading into the final frame, the Blackhawks led by 5 points but that soon evaporated. Charlo outscored them 24 to 8 in the final frame and the Blackhawks fell 46-57.

Chase Haines led the Blackhawks with 14 points followed by Walker McDonald with 11. Sean Mercado and Ben Haley each had 7 points while Jason James had 3. Owen Hoag and Klayton Kovatch had 2 each.

On the home court the Lady Blackhawks dominated Hot Springs jumping to a 24-12 advantage in the first quarter and extended it to 41-20 by the half. The final score was 65-37.

The Maughan sisters led the Lady Blackhawks with 14 points each with Mauldin close behind with 13 points.

The Boys got off to a great start against Hot Springs taking a 12-point lead in the first quarter. They maintained their distance until late in the game when Hot Springs came dangerously close to overtaking them.

Hot Springs started fouling in attempt to gain possession of the ball and stop the clock but they paid the price. The Blackhawks sunk 11 of 14 free throws in the final frame with McDonald and James shooting 100%, hitting 4 of 4 and 2 of 2 respectively.

The Blackhawks defeated Hot Springs 62-47.

Three Blackhawks scored into the double digits with Mercado scoring 13 followed by McDonald and Kovatch with 10 each.
