Blackhawks tangle with Tigers and Prospectors

SEELEY LAKE - The Blackhawks and Lady Blackhawks traveled to Darby to face the Tigers Feb. 4 and hosted the Granite Prospectors Feb. 5. The Boys split the week falling to Darby before defeating Granite while the Lady Blackhawks added a pair of wins to their season.

The Boys kept pace with the Tigers early in the game but by half time they were trailing by 8 points. Tigers kept out of reach in the second half and the Blackhawks fell 34-52.

Walker McDonald led the Blackhawks with 10 points followed by Owen Hoag and Klayton Kovatch with 7 points each.

The Lady Blackhawks had no trouble taking down the Tigers. They scored more points in the just the first quarter than the Tigers did in the entire game. The final score was 61-18.

Emily Maughan and Kyla Conley both scored into the double digits with 15 and 14 points respectively.

Back on the home court, the Blackhawks slipped behind the Prospectors in the first quarter. They recovered by the half and pulled to a 49-42 victory by the final buzzer.

Kovatch put in 8 baskets for 16 points to lead the Blackhawks followed by Sean Mercado with 12 points from 4 three-pointers.

The Lady Blackhawks had a slower than normal start but made up for it in the second quarter outscoring the Prospectors 23-7. They cruised through the second half to a 67-46 victory.

Four Lady Blackhawks scored into the double digits with Sariah Maughan leading the way scoring 21 points including three three-pointers. E. Maughan scored 17 while Conley and Tegan Mauldin each scored 10 points.

Next week is the final week of the regular season. Seeley-Swan heads to Charlo Feb. 11 with JV starting at 4 p.m. They then hosts Hot Springs Feb. 12 with JV Boys starting at 3 p.m.
