Swan Valley Library Book Chat open to all

SWAN VALLEY - For the month of February, we are reading "A Painted House," written by John Grisham copyright 2000. The Book Chat meets Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. at the Swan Valley Community Library on Highway 83.

The summary on the back of the book "A Painted House" states, "Until that September of 1952, Luke Chandler had never kept a secret or told a single lie. But in the long, hot summer of his seventh year, two groups of migrant workers-and two very dangerous men-came through the Arkansas Delta to work the Chandler cotton farm. And suddenly mysteries are flooding Luke's world. A brutal murder leaves the town seething in gossip and suspicion. A beautiful young woman ignites forbidden passions. A fatherless baby is born...and someone has begun furtively painting the bare clapboards of the Chandler farmhouse, slowly, painstakingly, bathing the run-down structure in gleaming white. And as young Luke watches the world around him, he unravels secrets that could shatter lives-and change his family and his town forever."

The book chat is the second Wednesday of the month. The group decides what book to read two months in advance to give everyone time to get the book and read it. The March book will be "Golden Girl" by Elin Hilderbrand copyright 2021.

The book chat is open to all residents of the Swan Valley and can join anytime.

"It's a great way to meet other people and gain perspectives that don't always match preconceived opinions," said Librarian Jenny Kauffman. "The world is full of all kinds of people and it's nice to realize that we don't have to agree on every aspect of life to get along as neighbors and friends."
