Seeley-Swan clashes with Pirates

The Lady Blackhawks and Blackhawks headed to Victor to take on the Pirates Jan. 22. The Ladies brought home an easy victory while the Boys fell just short.

The Lady Blackhawks made quick work of the Pirates allowing just one point to their 17 in the first quarter. They added 11 points to their lead by halftime and finished them off 73-28.

Emily Maughan scored a season high of 25 points followed by a season high of 21 points for Kyla Conley. E. Maughan sank three three-pointers while Tegan Mauldin had 2 and Conley had 1.

Also scoring: Sariah Maughan 7, Trista Alexander 6, Mauldin 6, Dani Sexton 4, Aubrey Matthew 2 and Mia Saalfeld 2.

The Boys got off to a slow start scoring just one point in the first quarter but held the Pirates to four points. By the half the Blackhawks were trailing 7-13. They slipped to 16-28 by the end of the third quarter.

The Blackhawks were not giving up and more than doubled their score in the final quarter while holding the Pirates to 6 points. The Blackhawks comeback came just short and they fell to the Pirates 33-35.

Chase Haines led the Blackhawks with 8 points followed by Walker McDonald with 5. Sean Mercado, Klayton Kovatch and Owen Hoag had 4 points each while Ben Haley and Seth Richardson had 3 and Jason James had 2. Haines scored two three-pointers and McDonald had one. The Blackhawks were hitting their free throws, sinking 5 of 6 with Hoag and James each going 2 for 2.

This week Seeley-Swan hosts Drummond Jan. 28 with JV Girls starting at 2:30 p.m. They then head to Valley Christian Jan. 29 with JV Boys starting at 1 p.m.
