Jana Roberts from Stevensville, Montana taking off with her team of four with her husband Ryan ready to pull anchor behind her. It has been a dream of Jana's to run dogs since she was young. She said there are still days that she can't believe she is doing it. She really enjoyed the opportunity to come out and run with other mushers at the Montana Mountain Mushers Winter Fun Days Jan. 8 and 9.
Seeley Lake musher Roy Etnire ran 12 females on Saturday, Jan. 8. He took Lerma Stine with him for the hour and half ride in his sled. Etnire has been mushing for 14 years and is currently the chair of the Race to the Sky 100m and 300m sled dog race scheduled for Feb. 11 – 15.
Jana Roberts leading two-year-old Yuri while he pulled Seeley Lake's Kristen Pearson around the parking lot at the Morrell Creek snowmobile trailhead Saturday, Jan. 8. This was Yuri's first time in a harness. Kristen is hoping to learn how to skijor with Yuri.
Janet Whitesell of Seeley Lake skijoring with her dog Iditarod Jan. 8. While Iditarod is a great lead dog on Whitesell's team, she is still learning how to skijor when there are no other dogs behind her.
Sonya McCloney of Lolo, Montana brought her two huskies to run. She borrowed a third dog from Jana Roberts so she could keep up with the Roberts' four-dog teams. She said she has participated in a few of the Montana Mountain Musher Winter Fun Days. She enjoys the opportunity to learn and run her dogs.
SEELEY LAKE – While most people call it the "Dog Days of Summer," the dogs of winter were out enjoying the new snow this past weekend. Montana Mountain Mushers hosted their annual Winter Fun Days Jan. 8 and Jan. 9 at the Morrell Creek snowmobile/musher parking lot.
Experienced Seeley Lake mushers Roy Etnire and Rob Loveman answered questions and shared their expertise with members of the public and other mushers.
Yuri, a two-year-old Russian Siberian Husky owned by Bob and Lerma Stine of Seeley Lake, tried pulling for the first time. The Stines borrowed a harness and sled to practice in the parking lot.
Everyone who came agreed it was a lot of fun to work their dogs and hang out with other mushers.
