Emergency responders work to extract and care for victims of a head-on collision Monday, Oct. 3 near the north end of Salmon Lake.

SALMON LAKE – On Oct. 3 at approximately 6:59 p.m. a call was received for a three vehicle head-on crash. Following the investigation, Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Mary Strumpfer determined it was two separate accidents. No life-threatening injuries were reported. The cause of the head-on collision is still under investigation.

The two crashes occurred north of Salmon Lake around mile marker nine on Highway 83. When officers arrived, Strumpfer said Highway 83 was completely blocked. While there were multiple injured parties, no injuries were determined be life threatening at the time.

After investigating the accident, Strumpfer determined that there were two separate crashes.

One was a single vehicle crash with no injury. Speed and alcohol were suspected to be a factor.

Another crash was a head-on collision with minor injuries. Seeley Lake Fire Department transported some occupants for treatment.

Highway 83 was cleared at approximately 8:09 p.m. Occupants included residents from Seeley Lake, Missoula and Idaho.

The investigation for the head-on collision was still pending at time of print.
