Blue Hawks down Blackhawks

SEELEY LAKE – The Blackhawks hosted the Thompson Falls Blue Hawks Sept. 24 and suffered their first loss of the season.

The first minutes of the game were disastrous for the Blackhawks setting a grim tone for the rest of the game. Blackhawks' kickoff was returned nearly the entire length of the field and Thompson Falls scored a touchdown two plays later. Thompson Falls was back in the end zone three plays later after picking off a pass making it 0-14 with 10:38 on the clock.

Thompson Falls took in another pair of touchdowns before the Blackhawks were able to get on the scoreboard. On a quarterback keeper, Owen Hoag took the ball 72 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed and the touchdown would be the last time the Blackhawks saw the end zone.

The score was 6-50 by the half. While the Blackhawks had a better second half, they had no chance of catching Thompson Falls. The final score was 6-62.

Hoag completed 6 of 19 passes attempted. He hit Walker McDonald three times for 50 yards, Jason James twice for 24 yards and Cannon Hawkinson once for 9 yards.

Hoag led the Blackhawks in rushing with 110 yards on 7 caries including their lone touchdown. McDonald and Hawkinson had two carries each for 18 and 26 yards respectively.

McDonald punted 3 times averaging 42.3 yards with the longest being 48 yards.

On the defense, Hawkinson led with 5 solo and 5 assisted tackles followed by Kaden Thornsberry with 3 solo and 6 assisted and Klayton Kovatch with 3 solo and 3 assisted. Kovatch caused on a fumble that was recovered by Thompson Falls. Hoag and Seth Richardson had the team's only tackle for losses.

This week the Blackhawks host Mission Oct. 1 with kickoff at 7 p.m.
