Interagency fire managers across northwest Montana are rescinding Stage 2 Fire Restrictions. Recent rain and cooler temperatures have brought needed moisture to forest vegetation and lowered the fire danger across northwest Montana. Fire managers remind the public that debris burning remains closed and does not open until October 1st, 2021.
As the weather continues to cool and we move into the fall, camping and outdoor recreation are popular activities. Be prepared and have the proper tools to extinguish a campfire before you light it. Bring a bucket, water, and shovel to drown and stir the campfire until it is completely out. If it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave!
Missoula area interagency fire managers met Tuesday, Aug. 24 and recommended lifting all restrictions. This will be implemented as of 12:01 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26. Fire Danger in the Missoula area has dropped to High.
The following jurisdictions are rescinding fire restrictions on Wednesday, Aug. 25 at 12:01 a.m.
• Flathead National Forest lands outside the Great Bear and Bob Marshall Wilderness, in Flathead, Lake, Missoula, Lewis and Clark and Powell Counties. The Great Bear and Bob Marshall Wilderness remain under Stage 1 restrictions.
• Kootenai National Forest lands in Flathead, Lincoln and Sanders Counties in Montana and Kootenai National Forest lands in Bonner and Boundary Counties in Idaho.
• Glacier National Park.
• Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Kalispell, Libby, Plains, Stillwater and Swan Units. State Land and Private Classified Forested Land within Flathead, Lake, Lincoln and Sanders.
• Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Region 1 within Flathead, Lake, Sanders and Lincoln Counties.
• Flathead, Lake, Lincoln and Sanders Counties
• Cities of Libby, Troy and Whitefish.
• Flathead Ridge Ranch lands are closed to all public use.
• Stimson Private Timber Company and F.H. Stoltze Land & Lumber Company lands are closed to all public use.
• Green Diamond Resource Company lands in Lincoln, Sanders and Flathead Counties are closed to all public use.
• SPP Montana timberlands in Lincoln, Sanders and Flathead Counties are closed to all public use.
