Remembering Trenton Johnson

SEELEY LAKE – Under smoke filled skies, family and friends of the late Trenton Johnson gathered at his memorial on top of the Florence Lake Trail 451 July 18 to remember him, share stories and laughter and raise funds for the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, a national non-profit whose main mission is to support and sustain the home of a fallen or injured firefighter – where compassion spreads like wildfire.

Johnson, 19-year-old firefighter from Missoula, sustained fatal injuries from a falling tree while fighting the Florence Fire on the Seeley Lake Ranger District the afternoon of July 19, 2017. He was a member of the 10-person Grayback Forestry, Inc. module assigned to the fire.

This was the fourth anniversary of the gathering. It is scheduled annually on the weekend closest to July 19. It was also the second year of the 12-mile Uey Run, from Seeley Lake to Johnson's Memorial cairn.
