Loving the four seasons...

Montana Memories

I love the four seasons. Each one has special meaning and opportunity.

Fall is hunting which I love, have always loved. Yes, I continue each fall to pursue meat for the freezer. Also football, basketball, leaves turning gold, orange and softly falling from the trees, preparing to take a long snooze.

Winter is clear and crisp with gorgeous snow or can't-see-a-thing blizzards! Skiing, snowmobiles and icy roads but beautiful none the less. We need the snow to provide the moisture for spring.

Spring is my favorite season. All new baby animals, flowers sprouting up through the ground, leaves returning to fill in the branches on the trees, fresh green grass, gorgeous.

Summer brings heat, sunny skies, happy smiles, water sports and tourists as well as pack trips, river floating, people out camping, country fairs and laughter heard in abundance.

All four seasons provide happy smiles on the faces of people flocking to enjoy their favorite activity. I have watched the Swan Valley grow over the years. New people from other states have shown up.

We need to keep our hearts open for growth. We may not like the new way we live but remember this: Columbus took off and came to America. Had the Natives not welcomed him, we all might be living a completely different lifestyle! Never did appreciate tea that much...

Enjoy, smile, do something fun and continue to keep Montana on your mind.

Pork Burgers

1 pound ground pork seasoned with Johnny seasoning, sage, salt and pepper

8 saltine crackers crushed

2 tablespoons heavy cream

I add fine cut onions, mushrooms to my meat before I cook it

Grill over low heat or on the grill. I prefer slow with grill marks but no pink. Do NOT squish or it will lose the natural juices. Flip once.

Grill your bun on the grill, add your choice of condiments. I like Mayo with pickle juice, mustard and a little thousand island dressing. Lettuce, tomato and a pickle on the side. Chips for fun. Enjoy!
