Slow fishing but lots of fun at Mr Pike Tournament

SEELEY LAKE –The consensus for the 2021 Mr Pike Tournament was ""It was tough fishing." With 24 participants only seven teams came for the weigh-in Saturday and six on Sunday. Regardless of the results, the intent of the tournament is just to have fun fishing for pike and adding a little competition with it.

Mr Pike Tournament is held annually in June. Participants can fish Seeley or Salmon Lakes on Saturday and Sunday. They are allowed to weigh-in three fish, over 22 inches, each day. Prizes are also awarded for big fish each day.

DJ Harris and his partner LeeRoy Walz maintained their seat at the top of the leaderboard again this year with 35 pounds total over the two-day tournament. DJ won big fish both days with a 6.3-pound northern pike Saturday and a 9.7-pound pike Sunday. Both were caught in Seeley.

Father-son team Nathan and Cole Walz of Corvallis, Montana again placed second this year with 32 pounds total over the weekend. Their biggest fish was a 7.2-pounder on day two.

Third place with 14.1 pounds went to Corbin Keaster of Belt, Montana and Keenan Watt of Great Falls, Montana. This was Keaster's second year placing third and he looks forward to breaking into the top two.

"Oh, I'll be back next year," Keaster said. "It's always fun."
